The two combatants square off. Notice the lack of a "ready" or combat stance on the part of the defender. In Tai Chi Chuan, techniques are often delivered without a preparatory stance.

As the attacker throws a right hooking punch at the defender's head, the defender attaches at the attacker's wrist with the inside of his left arm.

Three actions are now performed simtultaneouly by the defender: (1) The left hand turns sharply over and forward forcing the attacker off-balance. (2) The defender's weight shifts quickly forward and the waist turns counter-clockwise. (3) The attacker is violently struck on the side of the head by the back of defender's "hook-hand." As in all good Tai Chi, this action blends with the attacker, applies a slight neutralization and follows through with a strike or push.

An explosive strike ends this brutal confrontation.
